While waiting to board my flight back home, I had the opportunity to watch this (maybe) 60 year old cart driver. Those cars that take you from one end of the airport to the other.
Earl, as I decided to name him, was parked at my gate, watching and ready to assist anyone. What cought my eye was his care for the cart (is there a specific name for those airport carts? Anyway…) he made sure it was clean, not on the way of busy rushed travelers, he was smiling and he carrfully placed all the seat belts perfectly straight forward so whoever was lucky to ride Earl’s amazing cart could sit and fasten their seat belt without any trouble.
How easy to get lost into everyday routine, how simple details can go a long way and someone always notices. Earl could easily not care about the seat belts or how clean his cart looks… But oh, it matters!
Oh the love I have for paper, a fresh new notebook, the feeling of writing with that favorite pen on a blank space. The intimacy and almost private way your words are spelled with a pencil. Lists all over, crossing over at the end of the day the things that you accomplished, adding the ones that werent there just so you can scratch those out. Dreaming. Journaling, wonderful habbit. Cursive. Italic or just plain Bold! I could buy hundreds, pocket notebooks, blank, ruled, notepads…
Books, neatly printed and the more you read the more they become yours with pages being passed and covers getting held and carried everywhere. Magazines! The art of publishing. Deadlines. Spellchecks. Never enough pages. Paper, oh the feeling of holding.
Never good enough. That honest and that simple, also that OK.
Let’s start with the fact that I do not like to cook at all, I’m forever thankful for three things:
1. To whoever decided to start delivery, and let me tell you where I come from you can get ANYTHING deliver to you, yep… McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza, Taco Bell, Lasagna, cakes, anything.
2. To God, who knew I would not survive on my own without a good CHEF as a husband who not only is so kind to me (I’m a very picky eater) but also is willing to cook every day. [I wash dishes -on my defense]
3. A great metabolism. Although Im scared someday I will wake up huge.
I don’t know how to cook, and not sure if I’m able to learn or if I want to haha … I’m sure I’d burn water if that was possible. I could survive on flour tortillas and cheese.
Back to the subject… Cooking for him and acing it is almost impossible, like I said Im really bad at it too so it doesn’t take an expert in food to know that “my best effort” is not going to be enough here ha ha HA.
Last night I managed to BURN three hot dogs and smoke my whole apartment like if we just had an inside bonfire going on. In two minutes. Yep! And Im not saying nice burn like you would still eat them, nope… Black, gross burn.
And then I realize Im not a dog person I am a “MY dog person”. Thirty years later Ive discovered this truth about pets and myself. Next time someone asks “do you like dogs?” I have to think twice before answering. Two weeks ago “YES!” No question asked, my answer would have been YES, i love dogs. But comes to a point were you have to be honest and really know yourself.
I have a dog and I’ve always had a dog at home. I don’t mind other peoples dogs (red flag: I rarely pet them) and they wont stop me from coming into your home or being near you. My dad feeds her, he grooms her once a week, heals her, cares for her, takes her to the vet when needed, buys her food treats, etc. So to be honest I don’t HAVE a dog, I LIVE with a dog = roommates 🙂
I ADORE Camila, my our yellow lab. She’s getting old but I swear she is one per cent away from being human. She understands everything, she knows when theres guests over and she has to stay upstairs (no gate or closed doors needed) she knows how and when to go to bed on her own, takes her blanket out, she knows when is Sunday [because thats the day she gets a ride in the back of the car and we go buy breakfast at McDonalds, where they know her!]
Yeah she’s adorable and a bit chubby of LOVE. Also, she knows how to get on her seat and push the button to roll the window up and down.
So what’s all this about? … Like Ive shared before Im recently married and like they say “marry the man and marry his family” well that comes with pets included. My husband bought an American Bully two years ago and although at first I was excited and really into the PUPPY
Living with the grown version now is different…
Although he is REALLY A GOOD DOG. No barking, chewing on things or going potty inside the house has ever happened… Im not used to an overly active dog, shedding, spending money on him, and all that comes with HAVING a dog. And yet I cant complain, my husband in a fight for me to give Pedro some love he takes him out three times a day, grooms him and takes care of his food. So whats wrong you may ask … I love that Camila is very calm and sweet and then we have Pedro who is wild, playful, and active (yeah, like a dog should normally be) and he follows me or my husband around the apartment all day long, he sniffs everything, has an eye for even the smallest ant and wont stop until he gets it, he is very curious and if it was up to him he would be even going into the bathroom with you [ i draw the line ] i take care very little of him since my husband is the one taking care of him, but Im just getting use to 1. Sharing my husband with a dog 2. All the hair.
Almost a year ago on February my husband and I got engaged and this past December we got married; from the day we got engaged the questions started to rain from (almost) EVERYONE! And I wonder if they will ever stop asking.
We were celebrating our engagement with friends and family and people are congratulating us and right away shooting “when is the wedding?! Have you set a date?” Ok people eight hours ago I had no idea my life was officially changing and my finger was going to be forever shiny, why would I have a date yet? But it’s ok, I guess sometimes we ask questions without thinking. And then everyones favorite second question “are you having babies soon?” WHAT!? how about we enjoy the fact that we just committed ourselves to spend life together FOR EVER and we are about to face a lot of changes.
Don’t push me to push!
What I’ve learn is that I will never ever again ask a woman when is she having babies or push her to have a baby soon just for the fun of it or because I think is time and she should. Why? Here are my thoughts:
– You can plan all you want, God decides and has His own timing.
– That woman may perfectly never want children and has all the right to plan decide not to. She can totally love kids, all her nieces, nephews, friends kids, work with kids, believe in the next generation and all that fun thing and yet NOT want her own. And why should this person feel bad or guilty for deciding something not common.
– Not everyone is capable of having kids. Everyones body is different and not everyone is physically capable of having kids. Not fun stuff. Heart breaking, unfair and for so many tragic. This is the one I wish everyone had more caution with when touching the subject. You never know who is trying and for how long. And these people are constantly reminded by all the kids around and all the pregnant woman walking everywhere (who once you cant have your own or pregnancy is in your thoughts, heart and hopes… Seems like pregnant announcements multiply by the minute, right? )
Im Happy for all the kids coming and for all the friends expecting but my husband and I want to wait so thanks for your enthusiasm and all the cheers! We will see. One of the above describes Me (at least at this moment) and I want to have peace with it and wish that people would stop pushing us to hurry.

Today it marks one month since our wedding day! definitely one of the best days (yet) of my life. I’ve had some amazing days before but for sure this is on my top 5 [top 5 coming up on some other blog] … Back to December 6th. 5:45am rise and shine!
Im too shy to scream and run like that but the bride in me was totally a Monica at that moment. It was a beautiful Saturday morning.
Wake up call to one of my best friends to remind her to pick up some of the bridesmaids at the other hotel and bring them to the wedding venue for hair and make up, seeing some of my girls that early on that crisp morning was one of my favorite things. Everything was happening, the day had come. I wont go into details, it could get long.
We are at this beautiful, fairytale resort in Antigua Guatemala. Im everywhere, checking out the reception tent, trying to wake up my siblings, hanging out with girlfriends and my 24 friends from Minnesota who were so amazing and gave me the honor to have them here to share this day, yep twenty-four #beyondblessed, seeing my amazing mom finalize details, barely being able to see my dad into his eyes, videographer shows up with his drone, wedding planner-assitant arrives, the groom arrives (I’m hiding behind a tree while he gets out of the car) talented-awesome photographer comes, make up time, hair… Im still very calm, too calm some of my bridesmaids would say, not nervous at all, why would I? after nine months of planning, doing and preparing what was done was done. I was determined to enjoy every minute and moment of the wedding weekend and Im glad I did.
Time to jump into the dress (literally) … and then I got nervous! yep, too tight! for the last month and a half I kept loosing and loosing weight so they kept taking it in and in… on that Saturday the dress was tighter than any of the maybe unnecessary-but-oh-so-fun 20 times I tried it on. I guess I was too relaxed and I expanded?!?! whatever! It did fit just not like I wanted to, I have make up on so no tears allowed, the show most go on…. pictures, get in the car [FYI: vintage convertible volkswagen beetle], small detour on the way to the church (we followed the wrong bus), get off the car, look at my hero-dad, walk down the aisle (biggest smile ever), I DO, He Does, Mr. & Mrs Oliva!, pictures more pictures, back to the coffee resort, more pictures (and loving it), twirling on my dress like a five year old with a tu-tu, handsome groom, first dance [Bruno Mars – Just the way you are] friends everywhere, almost all of our family members, hugs, … major headache (not surprised!) I forgot to eat breakfast and the night before I was too busy to eat dinner (brides, don’t do that) lunch for the bride ASAP! And now that I look back Im glad I tried the food because it was ah-mazing!, cut the beautiful cake [chocolate with dulce de leche]… dance, live band, dance and more dancing!!! one of the best decisions was to wear TOMS wedges www.toms.com, I swear the idea of changing shoes or my feet hurting never crossed my mind, I totally recommend them. Not done yet… 7pm “everyone must come out of the tent, there’s something on the front yard” yep SURPRISE! FIREWORKS! could this get any better? impossible! who has fireworks on their wedding? yep, we did! [provided by the best brother ever!] I LOVE fireworks, the sound the color, the feeling … how romantic.
We danced the night away, I enjoyed every single moment. I was conscious about how THIS day was a BIG one for the books, the day every girl dreams of at some point in her life… so many detail went into it that I wanted to save everything in my head and THAT my future bride-friends is the biggest tip I can give you, it made the day not fly by.
The after party: Minnesota popcorn on the hall! needless to say removing my natural make up took for ever and the groom fell asleep [he was emotionally drained haha, he had been for the past week a nervous wreck!] I did not want to take my dress off I was in denial, I wanted to keep it on for the rest of the night, I didn’t don’t worry.
And that’s how I became a newlywed, a Mrs., oh the stories I already have about this journey on this short month, keep posted.
This cloud of mine is filled of blessings, full of changes, mistakes, is on a constant learning process, spelling mistakes yet grammar lover, coffee [tons of], TV, blogs, cookies, pictures, spanglish, entering the 30’s, growing, emotional, daughter-sister-newlywed-friend, neat freak, paper, believer, sweaters, dreams, and changing daily.
Forever I’ve been wanting to write my own blog, the more I read others the more i wanted my own. Too much planning can come to nothing, I’ve come to learn with years of dreaming and not doing; all because of waiting for the perfect time, perfect inspiration, subject, life experience, or any other perfectreason excuse I could think of. Truth is, theres no such thing as PERFECT and the more I try to strive for perfection the slower I get. So I will figure out on the way and try my best to do it as perfect as I can.
And then I ask myself… Why not? Why not me? Even if no one reads … Why not try? Give it a shot! I love blogs and i love talking to people, give advice, receive advice, share, and (even if I’m not the best) write. Hello 2015, let’s have a Picnic on a cloud! A ton of new things, changes (yikes!) and a wonderful 2014 …. New house, newlywed, new job schedule, new goals, same and more dreams!
I can do this, let’s get inspired.
